A host home is a form of supported community living where an adult with a disability lives in the home of a trained, screened, contracted provider — sharing family life rather than living in a staffed facility. LaBase Living is one of the Cedar Rapids area's established host home agencies, supporting individuals in host homes across Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, Coralville, and Iowa City. Every host home receives structured, ongoing oversight from our Host Home Coordinator.

Open your home, change a life, and build a meaningful contracted career. LaBase host home providers receive compensation (a portion may be tax-advantaged), training, 24/7 agency backup, and a coordinator who actually shows up.

Requirements: pass Iowa criminal and abuse registry checks (all adults in the household), pass a home safety review, complete training, and sign a provider agreement.

How the host home model is supervised

  • Every host home receives structured, ongoing oversight from our Host Home Coordinator
  • All direct support professionals pass Iowa criminal history and abuse-registry checks and complete required training, as Iowa law requires
  • Any household change screened before it happens

A host home is a form of supported community living where an adult with a disability lives in the home of a trained, screened, contracted provider — sharing family life instead of living in a staffed facility. In Iowa it is funded through the HCBS Intellectual Disability Waiver.

Host home providers are independent contractors compensated per person served, based on the person's assessed level of support; a portion may be tax-advantaged. Call (319) 777-8705 for current rates.

Adults who pass Iowa criminal and abuse registry checks — including every adult in the household — whose home passes a safety review, and who complete our training. You don't need a healthcare background.

Deliberately and slowly — preferences, routines, support needs, and personality on both sides, and both sides meet before any placement.

Training, agency backup, pre-arranged respite with screened direct support professionals, and structured, ongoing oversight from our Host Home Coordinator.

LaBase Living uses one-to-one text messaging between authorized staff and individuals who requested contact, prospective clients, current clients, authorized family contacts, case managers, and referral sources.
